West and East Bradford Townships native Eric Roe is the County Commissioner for Chester County Government. He oversees the various departments within the County government and serves the best interests of the county’s residents and taxpayers.
“Public service is a passion of mine,” said Roe. “What I enjoy most is supporting worthy causes and solving problems for my constituents. It’s not easy, but I’m excited to get out of bed in the morning and go to work.”
Roe’s first job was stocking shelves at the Staples office supply store in Downingtown at age 17, and he continued that job until he moved away for college at age 19. Roe graduated from West Chester’s Henderson High School in 2006 and entered college at American University in Washington, D.C., later that year. Roe earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from American University in 2010 and moved to London in 2013 to earn his master’s degree in Public Policy at University College London. Roe is currently completing his law degree from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law and will have his J.D. in May of 2024.
Roe credits Michelle Kichline for her positive impact on his career.
“For 5 years, I worked for Chester County Commissioner Michelle Kichline,” said Roe. “She probably taught me the most about local government and Chester County politics. Because of her, I learned what local issues mattered most to Chester County residents. I credit her with teaching me how to be an effective state representative, and now I’m using what she taught me to be an effective county commissioner.”
Throughout his career to date, Roe’s proudest achievement lies in his contribution to the passing of legislation aimed at safeguarding women from gun violence perpetrated by abusive partners.
“In 2018, when I was a State Representative in Harrisburg, I helped pass a bill that protected women from gun violence at the hands of abusive partners,” said Roe. “It passed with bipartisan support, and the Governor signed it into law. The bill protected women while also increasing the due process rights of the accused. It was a win for both the vulnerable, as well as the Constitution. I’m proud of that.”
Roe’s favorite Chester County restaurant is Four Dogs Tavern in Marshallton.
Roe and the rest of the 2024 Class of VISTA Millennial Superstars will be honored at the Awards Reception & Celebration on Thursday, May 9 at Penn State Great Valley, Malvern.
