As the pandemic continues to disrupt education, local teachers are eagerly awaiting their turn to get vaccinated, write Maddie Hanna and Kristen Graham for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

However, there is still no indication of when Chester County will receive enough doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to make this possible.

Inadequate supply along with the expansion in the number of residents who are eligible to receive the vaccine during Phase 1A – which does not include most teachers – have created “a double whammy for the education community,” said Chester County Health Department Director Jeanne Casner.

Casner, whose department also serves Delaware County, said that as a result, she cannot “guess anymore” when teachers in Chester and Delaware counties will receive their vaccines.

“It’s not going to happen probably in the next month,” she said.

To give its K-12 teachers and childcare staff first doses of the vaccine, Chester County needs between 25,000 and 30,000 units. Last week, the county only received 2,500 doses.
