The Fame Fire Company of West Chester will receive a $1 million grant from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

“Fame Fire Company has worked with West Chester Borough residents and the local municipality for years to make this project work for the entire community, and we are all grateful for their citizenship,” said State Rep.-Elect Dianne Herrin. “This grant is a major win for everyone who is served by them, as it helps ensure Fame will continue to provide the highest level of fire safety and protection services to our broader community.”

In 2014, Fame launched a $2.5 million capital campaign to renovate and build a two-story, 8,000-square-foot addition.

“Fame is extremely pleased to receive this RACP funding toward our important capital project,” said Fame President Mike McCarthy. “We especially appreciate the support we received from Carolyn Comitta, Christina Sappey, Dianne Herrin, Tom Killion, and Andrew Dinniman. The grant is a tremendous boost to our capital campaign. It certainly will help us achieve what we set out to do.”

RACP projects have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.

“Fame Fire Company is delighted with this RACP award,” said Bill Ronayne, who co-chairs Fame’s capital campaign committee with Don Powers. “It will go a long way in helping us complete the campaign and not burden our 100-percent-volunteer company with long-term debt.”

The new firehouse includes a recreation room, a fitness/training room, office space, overnight bunks, live-in dormitory rooms, and additional storage and accessory spaces.

“I’m so pleased Fame Fire Company has received this much-needed and well-deserved grant, which will help them as they serve Chester County and protect us all for many years to come,” said state Sen.-elect Carolyn Comitta, D-Chester. “Our West Chester fire companies are 100% volunteer, 100% certified, and 100% awesome!”
