Harcum College’s Nursing Program has realized two significant accomplishments in 2020.

First, the accrediting body for college-level nursing programs (ACEN) awarded Harcum’s program an unprecedented eight-year accreditation in recognition of the program outcomes and the high quality of a Harcum nursing education, according to Fran Schuda, Nursing Program Director.

“This important achievement is a reflection of Fran Schuda’s tireless commitment to achieving excellence and the dedication and energy of her team,” said Dr. Julia Ingersoll, Executive Vice President at Harcum.

Harcum President Jon Jay DeTemple expressed his congratulations to both women, recognizing Ingersoll and Schuda’s work together on realizing this singular accreditation outcome.

Harcum’s Nursing Program proudly continues its tradition of excellence by announcing the NCLEX-RN 2019-2020 annual pass rate as 100 percent. The last four graduating classes from Harcum’s Nursing program scored a 100 percent pass rate. This outcome is all the more impactful this year, considering it occurred during a pandemic.

Faculty were able to quickly and effectively implement innovative, remote learning strategies to assist students to meet all course objectives. For example, virtual clinical simulations and group Zoom meetings were a new part of daily class activities.

The students joined with the faculty in demonstrating flexibility, tenacity, and a new focus on the many uses of technology to assist in the achievement of course objectives. Harcum has been highly supportive of the educational needs of the students, providing laptop computers where necessary because of the need to pivot to remote instruction when the pandemic hit. This enabled the students to fully participate in the synchronous learning modules.

“The 2020 nursing graduates excelled in their ability to adapt to the challenges of learning in a new and uncharted environment,” Schuda said. “They succeeded in proving that all things are possible when we pull together to achieve a common goal. We are exceedingly proud of our faculty and staff for these outstanding results despite the disruption caused by the pandemic.”
