Tuesday with Michael: Are Your Managers Ready to Lead in the New Normal?

Are you ready for the new normal? Old ways of thinking and acting are not necessarily going to work in the new normal or any other name you choose to call the rapidly changing world we are living in today.

So what do we and our teams need in these crazy times to be successful? More than ever before, we need clarity about our goals, values, and core purpose. But we also need to dedicate time and effort into developing the leaders in our organizations.

The Facts are that companies are having a hard time preparing their leaders and managers for the future. With more and more Baby Boomers retiring every day, new managers have to be developed and leaders have to step up and take on new roles they might not be adequately prepared to fill.

There is a gigantic difference between doing the work and managing other people to do the work. Managing people with their different personalities, values and communication styles is often unknown territory for even the highest performers on your team.

Without a coaching or development plan in place, the consequences of ill-prepared leaders can be devastating to your company. In order to compete successfully in the new normal, managers need ongoing training on more than just how to do the work. They need professional leadership development training.

Getting Results Through Others is one program we offer and it is the key to growth, productivity improvement, and higher profits. Anyone who manages or supervises others need to learn how to continually improve personal productivity, how to set and achieve goals, communicate with greater effectiveness and motivate people to produce. Delegating, decision-making & problem-solving are other critical skills that must be grown and developed for leaders to be successful.

Whether we want to admit it or not, the workforce is aggressively changing every day. Are your managers prepared or are they managers by accident? Action must be taken now to prepare companies for the new normal.

Let me leave you with this quote from General Shinseki “If you don’t like change, you’re going to like irrelevance even less.”
