The recently formed Oxford Cornhole League is offering an opportunity for locals to enjoy a sport that is rapidly growing in popularity, writes Steven Hoffman for the Chester County Press.

The league began holding games in Oxford at the start of the year. According to Michael McMurrough, one of the league’s organizers, the turnout has been good from the start. Now, games are held twice a week: on Tuesday at the Nottingham Inn and on Friday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

“Anybody can play cornhole,” said McMurrough. “A lot of different people come out to play.”

Matches are played with two or four players who use two sets of bags and two boards. Players throw bags at the boards with the aim of getting them into the hole.

It costs $20 upfront to join the league, with a weekly $10 cost for players. Non-members can also play for $15 a week.

The league is now looking for an indoor venue to allow it to continue once the weather turns cold.

“We want to carry this throughout the whole year,” said Bill Meredith, another one of the league’s organizers.
