Brian Baade, 50, is a professional skateboard videographer who would like West Chester to have its own skateboard park.

West Chester could soon get its own skateboard park that would provide skateboarders with a safe place to skate, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

Brian Baade, an organizer of Skate Chesco, is proposing Bayard Rustin Park as the location for this new “skatespot.”

The professional skateboard videographer is leading efforts to build a 6,000-square-foot skateboard park. The plans are still in the very early stages and the Parks and Recreation Committee will look at the proposal for the first time in a few weeks.

So far, the only funding for the project is a GoFundMe campaign that has so far raised approximately $3,000 of its $10,000 goal.

The spot would be just a six-minute skate from Fairman’s Skate Shop on West Gay Street.

“It would be accessible to all kids in the borough that don’t have accessibility to cars,” said Baade, 50.

Skate Chesco interviewed several skaters to determine what elements the new park should have. The wish list includes a simple straight edge with no skate stoppers, a marble or granite bench, and a straight rail around 14 inches from the ground.
