Local salons are adjusting to the new, pandemic-shaped norm in the world of beauty, writes Caroline O’Halloran for SAVVY Main Line.

For some, such as The Hairdresser in Paoli, its reopening has gone remarkably well. According to Jay Martosella, who has owned the salon for nearly four decades, the establishment was fully prepared to safely welcome clients.

The salon stocked up on gloves, masks, and disinfectants. Acrylic shields were also installed at the front desk, and towels and capes are replaced after each client. Also, a special anti-COVID-19 spray is being used to sanitize stations between use.

Meanwhile, the new Beth Forte Hair in Devon Square is being run by Forte – a veteran stylist – herself, so there is no added interaction with a receptionist, shampoo girl, or styling assistant.

Also, at Cuticle Corner in Berwyn, nail techs wear face shields and masks, while sneeze guards have been installed at nail stations.

The owner, Uni Park, has also invested in PPE, cleaners, forehead thermometers, and special germ-killing UV lamps.
