The Chester County Commissioners have officially applied to the U.S. Department of the Treasury for some of the more than $91 million in COVID-19 funds that are being made available to communities nationwide for emergency relief during the pandemic, writes Michael Rellahan for the Daily Local News.

The commissioners are fairly certain that the county will receive the requested amount based on formulas that have been sent out to states through the CARES Act.

If approved, the funds would go to the county’s Department of Emergency Services for expenses that were not in the budget but have been incurred battling the virus. Included in this is overtime, extra equipment, and personal protective equipment costs.

If any funds are still available once the crisis ends, they will be returned to the treasury.
