With more food available than his customers can consume, Charlie Sharp, the owner of Station 52 in Kennett Square, is finding ways to give meals away to those who are going hungry due to the coronavirus crisis, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

“People need help, and I have a restaurant and I know how to cook,” said Sharp. “It’s time to help people. It’s important that we band together to help those who need it.”

Sharp found himself with excess food when he was forced to stop his dine-in services and switch to only doing takeout – which he learned quickly does not pay the bills. He was soon forced to furlough his staff.

“This is horrible,” he said.

But not wanting to let good food go to waste, he is now attempting to team up with the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District’s food service program. The aim is to use his kitchen to create meals for those who need them the most at this difficult time.
