A Berks County family surprised Coatesville resident Nicole Chintala, a single mother, with a wheelchair-accessible van for her daughter, writes Irene Snyder for WFMZ-TV.

Erik Nordhoy of Exeter Township is raising a child with severe special needs and knows how hard it can often get. Unlike many parents, though, he is able to afford a lot of things for his daughter Maddie to make her life easier, such as an elevator in their home. Knowing how fortunate they are, the family decided to help others with special needs whose parents are not able to afford the costly equipment.

Chintala is one such parent. Her daughter, Bailey, is six years old and has about 10 rare diseases. For the single mother, it has been impossible to afford desperately needed special equipment, especially a wheelchair-accessible van that normally costs upwards of $20,000.

So, when the Nordhoy family appeared at the door of her Coatesville home just a few days ahead of Christmas, with the keys to such a van, Chintala broke down in tears of joy.

“It means the world, because they understand how hard it is,” said Chintala.
