MacDougall’s Irish Victory Cakes in West Chester Offers Taste of the Old Country

By

MacDougall’s Irish Victory Cakes in West Chester offers a taste of Irish tradition with delicious cakes made from a family recipe, writes Tamala Edwards for 6ABC.

The business was started by Deb Streeter-Davitt eight years ago with the help of her parents, Richard and Patricia Streeter. She uses the recipe from her great-grandfather, who decorated cakes for royalty in the old country.

“It was eaten by the kings and queens and the rich and famous of England, Ireland, and Scotland,” said Streeter-Davitt.

Her great-grandfather gave up his culinary fame to come to the U.S. to provide a better education for his children and grandchildren. His story of success is how the cakes got their name.

Before taking up baking, Streeter-Davitt’s had been working in financial services for 25 years when the recession hit.

“Right around that time, I found great-granddad’s recipe, so I thought, let’s give it a try,” she said.

Streeter-Davitt’s retired parents also work with her. She bakes the cakes, while her mother decorates them and her father boxes them and then does the dishes.

“I’m the best dishwasher in Chester County,” joked Richard Streeter.
