CEO of Domestic Violence Center of Chester County Discusses Challenges Her Organization Faces

Dr. Dolly Wideman-Scott, CEO of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, has been involved in issues surrounding domestic violence for four decades, writes Krystine Sipple for Generocity.

She worked at the Domestic Abuse Project in Delaware County for 16 years, before applying for the CEO position at DVCCC in 1996.

One of the biggest challenges she faced in her 25 years with the DVCCC was changing the public’s perception that the organization was just a shelter.

With the help of her team, she began educating the community on the other things DVCCC does. She also expanded its services, advocated on behalf of domestic abuse victims, renovated the main building, and increased the budget from $300,000 to $2 million, among other things. She even created six outreach sites that serve all of Chester County.

Still, two things stand out for her as the programs that make her proudest.

“The Lethality Assessment Program, where we train law enforcement officers how to identify victims of domestic violence, and our Public Education Initiatives, which have made the community more aware of the impact of domestic violence,” said Wideman-Scott.
