A group of local Oprah Winfrey superfans traveled to New York to see their idol live during her appearance on TODAY, writes Alexander Kacala for the show.

“Everyone says that when you meet her that she makes you feel like she is one of your friends and not that she is above you,” said Julia from West Chester. “She makes you feel like you’re just as special as she is.”

Julia was in the audience with several friends from Philadelphia. They were all ecstatic to be so close to their hero.

“I love her energy because you can tell she really legitimately cares about everybody that she somehow has an opportunity to touch,” said Shelly.

The women were not just there for Oprah. They were also excited to see Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush, the hosts of TODAY.

“Hoda has a very similar spirit to Oprah, but she is blazing her own trail,” Trina said. “Everyone loves her, and she legitimately loves everyone in return.”
