At 45 years old, West Chester resident Chrissy Devlin has the chance to fulfill her lifelong dream and become the oldest Phillies ball girl, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

She first attempted to get the job 10 years ago, when she was among five finalists, but failed to nab the coveted spot.

Last week, she decided to try again, after her son encouraged her to take the Decade Challenge. She competed with 30 other women to take the field at Phillies’ home games this year. However, she will not know if she has gotten the job until next month.

“This is something I wanted to do my whole life,” said Devlin. “I want my message to be — especially little girls — is to never give up on your dreams, keep going, keep working and do the best you can.”

As the position of ball girl requires a weekly time commitment of 15 to 20 hours during the season, the majority of ball girls are college students or recent graduates.
