Adam McKay, the Malvern-raised film director, will produce a limited HBO series on Jeffrey Epstein based on an upcoming book by Julie K. Brown, a former Daily News crime reporter, writes Nick Vadala for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Brown is credited with renewing interest in Epstein’s case through her reporting for the Miami Herald. This led to his July arrest for sex trafficking.

The disgraced financier and convicted sex offender died in a New York City jail cell in August. The death was ruled a suicide; however, last week, a forensic pathologist hired by Epstein’s brother claimed Epstein’s autopsy “points to homicide.”

The upcoming series produced by the Great Valley High School graduate is a part of a five-year deal between HBO and McKay’s new production company, Hyperobject Industries. Brown and McKay’s longtime partner, Kevin Messick, will also produce the series, while McKay will direct the pilot episode.

The HBO series will be the latest McKay work based on a true story. His previous works include The Big Short about the financial crisis and Vice about the life of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
