Vance Johnson, a former wide receiver for the Denver Broncos who played in three Super Bowls, is rebuilding his life in Malvern after beating addiction and near financial ruin, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.

Johnson owed around $1 million dollars to creditors after decades of substance abuse, failed marriages, child support payments, domestic abuse, and many other personal issues. To this day, he is still working on repairing the damage he caused.

And while he knows the process is far from over, he has paid off the last part of his financial debt and is finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

“I was doing what was right for myself, and that leads to death,” said Johnson. “I died to myself. I learned that it’s about everybody else. That’s when you’re fulfilled.”

Johnson has undergone treatment and is now using his experiences to help others affected by addiction and inner pain on their way to recovery. He does about 70 speaking engagements a year.

When not on the road, he is in Malvern with his ninth wife, Michelle, working to rebuild his financial stability.
