Malvern native and the Great Valley High School graduate Robert Torres is aiming to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a racetrack pro, writes Lisa Dukart for Main Line Today.

“It goes back to when I was around six,” said Torres. “I always had a passion for speed.”

He began racing in a local go-cart league and won championships. Then, during his senior year, he attended the Bertil Roos Racing School to get his Sports Car Club of America competition license.

Today, the 20-year-old competes in the Lucas Oil Formula Car Series and is coached by Jonathan Scarallo of Group-A Racing from New York.

Currently, he is a development driver with Group-A Racing and races a Ray GR-RSC in the Lucas Oil series. He hopes to become a Formula 4 driver within a year.

Torres travels to meet Scarallo at the track once a month, and in between, he practices using modern technology.

“We have what’s called iRacing, which is extremely sophisticated, extremely realistic videogames,” said Scarallo.

Torres will now put his training to the test in the 2019 Lucas Oil series, which begins in May and runs through October.
