Golf recorded a huge surge in popularity during the pandemic, with the number of players growing to a record-high 6.2 million, reported Bryce Derouin for gambling.com.

The increase came both from people picking up the sport for the first time and onetime golfers returning to the game after an absence.

The group that recorded the most hours on the course was in the 60 to 69 age range, according to the National Golf Foundation.

With the older demographic playing the most rounds, gambling.com put together a list of states that ranked the highest when it came to golf for retirees using five metrics:

  1. Golf courses per capita
  2. Greens fees
  3. Sunlight hours
  4. Home value
  5. Bud Light value (pricing of the beer brand)

Pennsylvania came in at No. 11 with a total score of 66.1. The Keystone State ranked the highest in the Bud Light value, with a 91.9 score. The state also ranked high in the green fees category with a score of 89.8.

Pennsylvania had the lowest showing in the golf courses per capita category, with a score of 51.
