Phoenixville native Brian Dudzinski, one of the top professional competitive eaters in the country, will try to qualify for the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest at a preliminary round in Georgia.

“The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is a holiday celebration that is recognized across the globe,” said Major League Eating Chair George Shea. “There is no greater honor on July 4 than competing against the greatest eaters in the world on the big stage in Coney Island.”

Dudzinski, currently ranked 28th nationwide, will take on other contenders on May 11 at Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, Ga.

Dudzinski, who had no appetite as a kid, began his eating career nearly a decade ago.

“I train for it,” he once told Main Line Today. “It requires a lot of physical and mental concentration. It can be painful.”

He drinks five gallons of water daily to train, which is the healthiest and most cost-effective way to stretch his stomach.
