“It’s an awesome job with easy hours, you always get your weekends off, you’re outside all day, you get to swim, and you’re constantly active,” said a YMCA camp counselor. “There truly is no other job that could be more ideal than this.”

All branches of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine will host YMCA Hiring Events for prospective summer-camp counselors, lifeguards, and other summer jobs during the following dates and times:

• Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 11 AM-1 PM
• Thursday, Jan. 3 from 4-6 PM
• Friday, Jan. 4 from 11 AM-1 PM
• Saturday, Jan. 5 from 9-11 AM

The pay is great, and a membership is free. For years, YMCA counselors and lifeguards have built their resumes in the summer by gaining highly-sought-after skills and making a difference in the lives of others.

Summer-camp counselors become better critical thinkers and leaders, as they learn about responsibility, productivity, accountability, and conflict resolution. By mentoring young children, counselors develop a sense of giving back.

• “I was able to help children have a great summer, while also having a fun time myself. It is amazing to have a job where I can spend time outside doing fun activities. Every day, I was excited to come into work and spend time with the campers; the relationships I made are a huge part of the reason why I am excited to come back to camp this summer.”
• “As a camp counselor, you get the chance to learn some invaluable skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and patience, while developing your work ethic. These skills are necessary for any other job out there. You also get the chance to meet some awesome people who will be working alongside you.”

In order to become a summer-camp counselor at the YMCA, you have to be at least 18 years old, preferably have experience working with groups of children, and must be able to lead groups of campers with enthusiasm, patience, and respect. A lifeguard or swim instructor has to be at least 15 years old and, preferably, be available to work into the fall of 2019.
