Wellness Wednesday: Health is a Choice Made Everyday

By

When I was asked to write this wellness column for VISTA Today, I immediately thought of nutrition.

While I am not a nutritionist or a dietitian, I love learning and educating people about how food can fuel the body.

But recently I was thinking, wellness is more than just making healthy food choices.

The dictionary defines wellness as the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.  It takes effort to be well.  But isn’t it worth it?

Wellness is a choice we make everyday to live a fulfilling life.  If you are feeling out of balance right now, take a step to better your wellness in the following categories.

Physical Wellness-when I do not have congruency in my exercise, diet and nutrition I sure do feel it.  As the holidays are upon us, make sure you do not lack in high quality nutrition and don’t forget to move your body!

Spiritual Wellness-this can mean having hope, faith, purpose or peace.  Dig deep into your soul and connect with your spiritual health.

Emotional Wellness-how you cope with stressful situations can eliminate additional stress.  Consider mediation or journaling to recognize all you have in life.

Social Wellness-connecting with others, especially those you love will make your heart smile.  Reach out to someone you love and let them know you are thinking of them.

Be well, Jaime Lynn.
