Millennials – You have them, now how to keep them

Like them or not, Millennials are here to stay. Pew Research says millennials are expected to swell in numbers to 73 million as Baby Boomers decline.

Remember Millennials are those born roughly between 1980-2000 ranging in age from 15-35. Millennials are in the workforce.

Forget the 9-5 schedule.  Work life balance is essential in sustaining all your employees but Millennials demand it.

Revisit the possibility to think outside the box. If you want them to stay, offer training resources. They crave leadership opportunities with growth and development options.  Don’t wait for the next annual review, they might not be around.  Set short term goals for them, anchored by quarterly check-ins and frequent conversations.

These steps give Millennials a sense of purpose.  They thrive in environments in which their work has a clear purpose for the organization and they want to participate and make a difference.

Add in perks. It won’t cost you anything to have food trucks stop by once a week, set up a volley-ball net or pick charities to team with.  Consider pet friendly policies, or dare I say a meditation class at lunch.

Don’t get me started on nap rooms.

Remember, Millennials are driven by how well their team works together, how supported and appreciated they feel, and how many possibilities they have.

Isn’t this what we all want?
