The Pennsylvania House Liquor Control Committee discussed the impact of liquor law changes with local brewers and distillers at a recent meeting in Phoenixville, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.

The location was chosen by State Rep. Warren Kampf due to its vibrant craft brewing and distilling industry.

During the event, the committee heard testimony from industry representatives. These included Borough Manager Jean Krack and Jessica Capistrant, president and CEO of the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce.

One of the changes allows establishments to sell products from other licensed breweries, wineries, or distilleries. According to Mark Sofio, head brewer at Phoenixville’s Crowded Castle Brewing Company, this makes the industry more competitive.

“We have people come in and their friends may not like wine and they don’t drink beer and ask if we sell cocktails,” said Sofio. “We found that to be helpful in promoting ourselves and to bring people in.”

Ted Zeller, general counsel to Brewers of Pennsylvania, said that when the change went into effect, sales increased by around 25 percent.
