Bill Young, a physical education teacher at Penn Wood Elementary School in the West Chester School District, creates fun games for his students using conventional gym mats, while also inventing cool stuff on the side, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

Young, a former soccer standout, is also a member of Campbell University’s Sports Hall of Fame, a soccer referee, and published author. He makes unique sports memorabilia, like clocks made from used sports equipment.

Among his inventions are sectional parachutes, which he uses in class to keep students engaged and having fun. These are held together with Velcro and can be used to pull a classmate across the gym floor or to play volleyball.

“I love creating games for class,” said Young. “That’s what keeps me young.”

He has devised dozens of games that give every student the opportunity to win.

“I change things to make it work, and I love to level the playing field,” said Young.
