West Chester is known nationally for its efforts to preserve its historic fabric, and the people who work to achieve that goal are recognized by the West Chester Preservation Awards, writes Jane Dorchester for County Lines Magazine.

The awards program was established by the West Chester Downtown Foundation eight years ago. Since then, the awards have been given out seven times in four categories: Bricks and Mortar, Preservation Service, Preservation Legacy, and Special Recognition.

Last year saw eight more awards added to the list. This included the Preservation Legacy Award for “contributions that laid the foundation for the preservation of West Chester’s historic fabric, as well as the ongoing planning for the future preservation of its historic character.”

Nominations for the Eighth Annual Preservation Awards will open in April and will be accepted until June. Winners of this year’s awards will be announced in July, with the ceremony to be held on Oct. 19.
