Cochranville resident Boyd Martin, an Australian-born Olympian in equestrian, crowned his debut performance on Hunt Night at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show with a blue ribbon, writes Laura Lemon for The Chronicle of the Horse.

Martin was a surprise competitor as a foxhunter on behalf of Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds, riding Right On Que and winning the blue ribbon in the Gentlemen’s Hunter Under Saddle class.

“It was brilliant,” said Martin. “I’ve never been to anything like this before. I got loaned a horse from one of my fellow members and had a crack at the gentleman’s hack riding.”

Now, as the competitive season winds down, Martin has shifted to foxhunting. He has dedicated November and December to the Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds.

“I love my hunting to be honest,” said Martin. “At the end of the year, there’s no better outdoor activity I find than going out there in Chester County and jumping the timber fences.”

He said that the experience had also helped him and his wife Silva meet a whole new group of friends.
