Specialized electrical safety equipment donated by Exton’s Bender Inc. – a market leader in providing such equipment to industries worldwide – is helping to protect disaster recovery teams dealing with the devastation in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

The use of mobile generators and temporary power links with cables trailing in water or completely submerged poses a threat to people in the immediate vicinity, but the Bender LifeGuard ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) provide life-saving protection against potentially fatal electrical shocks.

Harvey came ashore on Aug. 25 as the most powerful hurricane to hit Texas in more than 50 years, killing an estimated 50 people, displacing more than a million people and damaging some 200,000 homes in a path of destruction stretching for more than 300 miles.

Bender’s headquarters in Exton has been getting first-hand reports of the devastation from its regional sales director based in Houston, which was hit hard by the hurricane.

Bender donated its LifeGuard units after an appeal on social media specifically mentioned the need for electrical safety equipment.

The company is a leading provider of protection solutions for all types of industrial applications, from power distribution monitoring to load protection. The LifeGuard GFCIs are widely used in the film industry for protecting actors and crews working in studio water tanks or in water on location, where they are often surrounded by the various power sources needed for production equipment.

“Disaster recovery teams are doing a fantastic job helping people in the wake of the hurricanes and tropical storms,” said Steve Mason, Bender’s Chief Executive. “We are proud to be able to reduce the risk when they are using the portable or temporary power supplies so vital to alleviate the misery and help people to rebuild their lives.”
