Surrey Center for Healthy Living in Devon: The Place for Fun, Friendship, Purpose

By

Surrey strives to help older adults live with independence and dignity and to continue as active members of the community, and its Center for Healthy Living in Devon is the epicenter for education, social activities, and volunteerism.

Each month, nearly 40 activities are offered, from Tai Chi to technology, from classical music appreciation to special events.

“Surrey offers older adults numerous ways to stay active both physically and mentally,” said Christi Seidel, Surrey’s Senior Director of Social Impact. “Our physical fitness programs cover everything from weight training to Tai Chi, so there is something for everyone.”

Surrey offers evidence-based programs, such as chronic disease self-management, with proven results.

Mental fitness is maintained and enhanced via lifelong learning, from foreign language conversation groups and current event discussions to hands-on technology classes and health education lectures.

“Programs for older adults must be designed to offer fun and friendship while offering education,” Seidel said. “Older adults are an experienced and discerning audience who deserve and demand the very best.”

Each day, Chef Ben prepares a delicious and nutritious meal for the Center’s participants.

“Our luncheons offer a chance to catch up with friends, make new friends, and see the health information learned in practice with a healthy lunch,” said Chef Ben.

Surrey’s transportation services can assist older adults’ participation in the programs with scheduled van rides to the Center for the educational programs and lunch.
