Kennett Square’s Mompops Becoming Nation’s Coolest, and Perhaps Healthiest, Treat

They’re allergen-free, all-natural, low-calorie, low-carb, and available at Whole Foods.
And now they’re headed to a nationwide chain of summer camps.
Mompops, one of the hottest new treat makers, is about to more than double its 10,000-popsicles-a-day output next month from a tiny manufacturing facility in Kennett Square, according to a report in The Philadelphia Citizen by Quinn O’Callaghan.

Mompops is the invention of Sandy Ostrander, whose career as a teacher provided firsthand experience with the modern explosion of food allergies — “an 18 percent increase in children under 18 with food allergies between 1997 and 2007,” the article stated.
“She decided she could do better than Big Popsicle and make something that virtually any kid could enjoy: a nearly allergen-free, low-carb, low-calorie dessert made from natural ingredients.”
To make Mompops commercially, Ostrander convinced her son, Issa Ostrander, to abandon a pizza oven and take up a freezer.
