Vanguard is investing in the workforce of the future by establishing a new presence that’s surrounded by the past.

The historic Center City office building that the Malvern mutual fund giant just leased boasts a look that’s “old, retro, and classic with large windows and rustic or industrial elements,” according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report by Natalie Kostelni.

“It’s become the millennial building,” landlord Paul V. Profeta said, because that’s the kind of tenants it’s now attracting.

Vanguard committed to 16,000 square feet on two floors for 10 years, with options to expand. It’ll move in 20 employees in the second quarter, and grow that number to 100.

With easy access to Drexel and Penn, the building at 2300 Chestnut Street provides the “right combination of location, style of space and open floor plan, and floor-to-ceiling windows,” said Vanguard spokeswoman Arianna Sherlock. “It will be different for us.”
