Wayne-Based Startup Digitizes Health Information in Youth Sports and Beyond

safety-tagOver the holiday break, the Philadelphia 76ers helped aspiring basketball stars fast-break toward a successful future, while a Wayne startup helped the Sixers take their basketball campers’ emergency paperwork into the future of health information.

Safety Tag partnered with the NBA team on its Sixers Holiday Hoops Camps by synching all participants’ registrations, waivers, and medical forms to the Safety Tag app, instead of filing them in burdensome binders, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report by John George.

“Safety Tag brings our camp’s health information system into the digital age, adding another layer of security, compliance, and safety on the court,” Sixers camp director Todd Landrey said.

The 76ers hosted 500 holiday campers, and also signed on to have Safety Tag facilitate health information at upcoming summer camps, which are expected to draw 5,000 kids.

“Safety Tag fills a gap between health information parents are already providing to sports programs and real-time access to that information,” Founder and CEO Michael Buono said. “Quick access to this information in an emergency can be critical and aid in any follow-up treatment that might be needed.”

The 2014 startup with $2.3 million in private investment is also marketing its technology platform to schools and workplaces.
