TE is sponsoring the rLoop team, a group of engineers whose expertise range from mechanical to aerospace. They are working on a high-speed rail system that would potentially make it possible to travel between Los Angeles and San Francisco in 30 minutes.
“They are the only non-university team competing in SpaceX’s Hyperloop competition (in January), and they are openly sharing their knowledge and expertise with other teams,” said Kari Janavitz, TE’s vice president of marketing.
The final hyperloop model created by rLoop will be presented during the SpaceX competition. While both TE and rLoop are hoping to win the competition, they agree that practical implementation may be decades away.
“Maybe my children, maybe my grandchildren will be traveling around in this,” said Jim Toth, senior director of technology strategy for TE Connectivity USA.
