Former Eagles Kicker David Akers Coming to Parkesburg

He played more games with the Philadelphia Eagles than Donovan McNabb, Randall Cunningham, or anyone else. He made six Pro Bowls, and was voted as the kicker on the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s. He even once kicked a record-tying 63-yard field goal.

And he’s coming to Parkesburg.

David Akers will be in attendance Saturday, Nov. 12, from 3-6 PM at The POINT. You’ve all seen him play. Now is your chance to hear his story.

David Akers’s story is one of hard work and perseverance. After his college career at Louisville, the Lexington, Ky., native was cut by three different franchises, worked as a substitute teacher and waiter, and kicked for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe, before finally catching on with the Eagles.

Ticket prices for this event range from $25-49, and will not be sold at the door. The POINT, located at 700 Main Street, is offering reduced rates for children under 16 accompanied by an adult.

The POINT aims to address the spiritual, emotional, academic, and physical needs of young people by partnering with local churches, businesses, schools, and social service organizations.

The POINT provides a 22,000-square-foot facility that includes:

  • 6,000-square-foot gymnasium
  • Indoor skate park
  • Cafeteria with seating for up to 80 people
  • Commercial kitchen
  • 3,000-square-foot Girls Room, which includes a hair salon, nail salon, kitchen, and lounge area

The mission of The POINT is to empower youth and families to live victoriously by offering a safe, engaging, and Spirit-filled environment. The POINT is open for youth ages 8-18, Monday through Thursday, with enrichment opportunities from 4:00-5:30 PM and general admission from 5:30-8:10 PM.

The POINT partners with 25 churches and has more than 300 volunteers. Every evening, a different church provides a meal for the students, a message from the Bible, and spends time engaging the youth in various games and activities.
