The Downingtown auction house collected $108,000 for a rare dower chest from 1795 that was “storied and lavishly decorated,” according to a report in Antiques and the Arts Weekly.

At the Oct. 8 culmination of the two-day Pook & Pook event, the legacy of the chest passed to the hands of a Texas collector, after spending time in the collections of George Horace Lorimer and then Sandy and Julie Palley.

“The Palleys had a great eye and great stuff. You’re not seeing a whole lot of great (chests like this) come across the market,” Show Manager Diana Bittel said.
