Marty Molloy Joins the Race for the 9th District Senate Seat

Marty Molloy, Nether Providence Township’s education leader, has announced that he is joining the race for the 9th Senatorial District seat for Delaware and Chester counties, which will be decided in the April 26 special election. The seat was vacated after former state Senator, Dominic Pileggi, accepted a judgeship on the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas in November last year, writes Chadds Ford Live.

Molloy, who is the director of vocational programming at YouthBuild, a school which helps at-risk young adults earn high school diplomas and prepare for future careers, will run against Dan Maisano, the recently-retired magisterial district judge, and state Representative, Tom Killion, both of whom have also announced their candidacies for the position.

“In the real world, failing to show up to work is not an option because too many people are counting on you to do your job. Some in Harrisburg clearly have not gotten that memo,” stated Molloy. “I’m running to represent the 9th District in the state Senate because hardworking Pennsylvanians deserve elected leaders who show up to work every day and do their jobs – not for the special interests, but for the people of our commonwealth.”

Molloy, 39, is a native of Berwyn and has served as an executive of the YouthBuild nonprofit for six years where he has overseen the development of new vocational training, and built institutional partnerships that have become a national model. Earlier in his career, Molloy served as the CEO of Greater Philadelphia Cares, where he orchestrated the merger with the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

In the release announcing his candidacy, Molloy attacked the current majority in the legislature for falling back on Corbett’s legacy of massive tax breaks for the wealthy instead of creating jobs, passing an extraction tax on Marcellus shale gas, and protecting open spaces.

“In order to bring real change to Harrisburg we need to elect new leaders who are beholden to the people, not to an extremist ideology,” he continued. “I am running to represent the residents of the 9th District because they deserve a budget that reflects their needs, not the wants of the wealthy and corporations.”
