Movie “Concussion” Inspires Local Company to Design New Protective Headgear

Following the release of Will Smith’s new movie, “Concussion,” which has shaken up the NFL, former players have come out with helmet technology that is being touted as game-changing.

Among them is former Jets offensive lineman John Roman and current Chief Executive of Defend Your Head, a Chester County based company, which is launching a protective helmet add-on this year.

Roman explained to the New York Post that the new product functions by slowing down the transfer of energy, while at the same time utilizing its slick surface to make blows glance off more easily.

“Since the December release of the movie, people are digging in and beginning to look very hard at what is a concussion and what can we do to make the game safer,” said Roman, adding that the movie had moved him and strengthened his “resolve to really, truly, make a difference.”

West Pharmaceuticals’ SmartDose Praised as a Pharmaceutical Breakthrough for 2015

West Pharmaceutical Services’ SmartDose wearable electronic injector system has been highlighted as one of the pharmaceutical breakthroughs of 2015 in a feature published in European Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Magazine.

The Exton based company’s electronic wearable injector system is a single-use device which adheres to the patient’s bodyand is pre-programmed to deliver high volumes of viscous or complex drug products. This technology has proven to be one of the highlights of drug delivery innovation and is one of the most promising options in the field.

The whole concept has been taken a step further by West Pharmaceutical, which has now connected its injectable drug delivery systems with tools on a patient’s mobile device to improve their overall experience and help ensure they get the correct dosage at the right time. This system should also reduce the chance of a patient forgetting or accidently doubling their required dosage.

Two Chester County Townships Spotlighted in Real Estate Markets Series

Tredyffrin and Easttown townships have been highlighted as part of philly.com’s continuing series that puts the spotlight on real estate markets in various communities throughout the region.

Covered by one school district, both townships are currently characterized by how little time “properly priced” listings spend on the market, according to Kate Balk, a real estate agent with Duffy Real Estate in Narberth and St. Davids. Houses only spend an average of 53 days on the market before finding new owners. For example in Easttown during the third quarter, 42 homes were sold with a median sale price of $652,500, and there are only 72 listings currently active.

“Easttown has many of the same benefits of Tredyffrin, which is a much larger township in population,” said Duffy, citing the school district, proximity to the train, and “reasonable” taxes, “if you consider any taxes reasonable.”
