If you have ever wondered just how rich Congressman Costello is (or isn’t), the Congressional Quarterly’s Roll Call has the list that ranks all the members of the Congress according to their wealth.

The “Wealth of Congress” index has been compiled every year since 1990 and is based on congressional financial disclosure forms. From them, the net worth of each Representative is calculated by subtracting the total minimum reported value of liabilities from the minimum reported value of assets. The index also gives an overview of the earnings for the richest and poorest Representatives.

This year first place on the list remained unchanged, as Republican Representative Darrell Issa from California remained on top for the third consecutive year. According to the index, the founder of Viper car alarms is worth over $250 million.

Comparatively, Chester County’s Ryan Costello, currently in his first term, is ranked quite a bit further down at 444th place. The index lists Costello’s net worth at $-0.08 million, with minimum assets at $0.42 million, and minimum liabilities of $0.50 million. He’s a young man with a family, maybe a new house and not too many years out of law school. His ranking makes sense.

Only one representative from Pennsylvania is ranked in top 50 richest members of the United States Congress. Republican Mike Kelly comes in at 42nd place of this truly exclusive club, as this year’s Roll Call found that to enter it, it took a minimum net worth of $7.28 million.

According to the index, Representative Kelly has a net worth of $8.73 million. His fortune is attributed to his car dealership, but the majority of his net worth comes from the stock portfolio belonging to his wife Victoria.

Among the poorest congressman from not just Pennsylvania, but the country as well, is Philadelphia’s Representative Chaka Fattah at 532nd place, opening the list of the ten poorest representatives with net worth of $-0.70 million.

Representative Fattah was recently indicted on several charges in relation to fraud.
