Registration is currently open for the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s (CCIU) Countywide Inservice, which will be held on Tuesday, November 3 at nine locations throughout the county. Designed to meet the unique staff development needs of special area educators, workshop strands include topics on speech and language, art education, the Danielson Framework, English as a second language, health and physical education, family consumer science and culinary arts, school librarianship, world languages, STEM education and risk and resiliency.
“This is a unique opportunity that is created specifically with the special area educator in mind,” said Mary Driscoll, program development specialist for the Innovative Educational Services Division at the CCIU, which operates the inservice. “These workshops give educators the opportunity to be together, collaborate and learn about best practices from around the county that they can then implement in their classrooms.”
This year, internationally known neuropsychologist Dr. Sam Goldstein will lead the workshop strand on risk and resiliency. Goldstein is the director of the Neurology, Learning and Behavior Center and is on staff at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute. He is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of Attention Disorders. His workshop will focus on the importance of resiliency for teachers and students, current research on how this impacts student learning and will provide resilience strategies for teaching students with developmental disorders such as autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, depression and anxiety.
Participants who attend one of these sessions will earn Act 48 credit hours. In addition, Continuing Education Units (CEU) and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) credits will also be available for the risk and resiliency and speech and language strands, respectively.
