Zoning Changes to the Woodbine Overlay District Finally Approved

Downingtown.
Downingtown.

After some confusion over last month’s approval to changes in the zoning of the Woodbine Overlay District, the Downingtown Borough Council finally approved the changes by a vote of 3-2 on Wednesday.

The issue was whether the initially approved amendments were passed legitimately as there was not a quorum present when the vote was taken. As a result the process, including another public hearing, needed to be repeated to ensure there was no questioning the validity of the decision.

The amendments passed on Wednesday state what land, buildings and premises may be used by right within the area for housing, commercial and other business developments. Part of the new ordinance includes a master plan that should open up discussion between the borough and the developers.

“I think it’s exciting” said Mayor Josh Maxwell, “I hope it works out very, very well.”

Pennsylvania Colleges Included In Business Insiders Highest Starting Salary List

Last week, Business Insider published its list of the top 50 colleges in the country where students can expect to get higher than average starting salaries on graduation.

The project was a part of Business Insiders annual survey to find the 50 best colleges in America which was then re-ranked according the average starting salary attained. The list was originally compiled based on a survey of 1,000 readers of the publication.

Six Pennsylvania colleges made the list with Lehigh University in Bethlehem achieving the highest ranking at number 13 with an average starting salary of $60,400 followed closely by Princeton at $60,000. Others that made the list are Lafayette at number 25 with $57,000, Bucknell in 26th, at $56,800, Villanova made 39th with $53,300 and Penn State got 49th place with an average starting salary of $51,500.

Pope’s Parade Plans Announced after Public Outcry over Tickets

To quell the public backlash over the disclosure that the best locations to see the Pope during his visit would require tickets that had already been assigned, the World Meeting of Families announced  that Pope Francis will parade along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on both days of his visit.

Most people familiar with Papal visits worldwide had expected that there would be at least one parade but the timing and routes are usually closely held for security reasons. So far only the route on the 26th has been revealed while the route to the open air Mass on the 27th is still not decided.

“This will allow everyone who turns out to see him,” Donna Crilley Farrell, executive director of the World Meeting.  She added that an additional 25,000 tickets would be made available for the pontiff’s three major public appearances.
