Greater Brandywine YMCA Welcomes Local Officials for Advocacy Days

Last week, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine hosted state and local officials at their branches in support of Advocacy Days.

Chester County Commissioner Terence Farrell and representatives from the West Chester mayor’s office and Senator Dinniman’s office were welcomed by the Oscar Lasko Youth Program Center in West Chester. The state-wide event aims to showcase the positive impact of local YMCA’s in the community.

“There are a number of great non-profits in the area, but the Y has a focus on youth development through impressive quality programs they make available to all youth regardless of their ability to pay,” said Commissioner Farrell. “This helps to support the next generation of youth in the community so that this great Chester County community continues to thrive.”

Brandywine Artisan Wine Trail Officially Kicks Off

The popular  Brandywine Artisan Wine Trail, which links all local area wineries with local artisans, has officially begun.

Each month has a different theme starting with “The Art of Painting”. During August, many of the wineries on the trail will showcase various local painters throughout the month or in “Pop up” Art shows in their tasting rooms.

The theme for September will be “Sculptures,” while “The Art of the Harvest” in October will celebrate National Cheese Month with wine and local award-winning cheese pairings from The Chester County Cheese Artisans association. The last month, November, will focus on the exception ceramic artisan pieces created in the region.

“Linking artists, artisans and wineries just seems like a natural combination to me,” said Artisan Trail Manager Lele Galer. “This area has so many interesting home-grown things going on, great wine, beer, food, and art, and so many fantastic people creating marvelous local products – it just makes sense that we should all work together and showcase what we have that is unique to the Brandywine Valley and Chester County.”
