A new kind of sales pitch recently joined the clamor for the attention of West Chester’s home shopping leader, QVC. Instead of entrepreneurs hawking the hottest new products, government officials have been sweet-talking QVC for the privilege of hosting its first West Coast distribution center.

And the winner is Ontario, California. The Los Angeles suburb will soon be home to the hub of QVC’s distribution for Western customers: a state-of-the-art facility aiming to ship 20 percent of the company’s U.S. orders and employ 500 by 2018 and 1,000 by 2020.

“At QVC, distribution plays a significant role in enriching the customer service experience,” Vice President of Distribution Operations James Reid said in the official announcement. “For each and every product we ship, we look at it as an opportunity to build trust, loyalty and engagement with our customers. This new distribution center will enable us to efficiently and swiftly serve our customers throughout the western United States.”

For selecting Ontario, QVC will benefit from a California Competes tax credit. The center is expected to open in the third quarter of 2016 as a LEED-certified facility with high-efficiency lighting, heating and cooling, along with a 250-kilowatt solar array on the roof. It will also displace 10 million truck miles for product transport.

“We are honored that QVC chose California for the location of their new state-of-the-art facility and look forward to continuing to help them expand in the Golden State,” California Governor’s Senior Advisor for Jobs and Business Development Mike Rossi said.
