Delco Dills started out as a way for Collingdale husband and wife Lee and Elaine Lawley to satisfy their own pickle cravings, writes Peg DeGrass for the Daily Times.

Now, they make nine different varieties of pickles, plus Pickled Jalapeno Peppers and Spicy Pickled Green Beans for stores throughout Delaware County and beyond.

Lee likes to cook, and over time, the couple perfected their pickle recipe.

The Lawleys, married for 17 years, not only enjoyed the pickles themselves, but they began giving them to relatives, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, who eventually began encouraging them to start selling the product.

The Lawleys set up a prep kitchen and stepped up production in January, selling to retail stores and restaurants.

Elaine thought of the name, Delco Dills, because the couple lives in Delaware County and the pickles are made here. Many of the varieties were suggested by pickle customers and perfected in the kitchen.

“Our family, friends, and neighbors are our guinea pigs,” said Elaine. “We give them pickles, and then we listen to the feedback we receive before proceeding with changing or not changing the recipe and altering the proportions of ingredients.”
