Maggie Garcia-Taylor has relied on SCORE to help her scale her business successfully.

When a local Oxford insurance agent pioneered a new ownership opportunity amid a family crisis, she needed a team to back her up. She found that and more in her local SCORE organization.

Garcia-Taylor’s story is just one of the many reasons Chester County SCORE was named the nation’s top chapter.

“They are currently my mentors with every stage of growth I experience, from HR to accounting to systems, IT, marketing … various types of hats that as a business owner you wear that you may not have the experience or capabilities to handle,” new Nationwide Insurance Agency Owner Maggie Garcia-Taylor said in a recent Daily Local News report.

She relied on SCORE’s mentors and resources to help establish her own business — the ticket to a brighter future, especially in light of the fact that life is short; her husband had just experienced a heart attack at the age of 49.

Garcia-Taylor’s partnership with SCORE and subsequent growth and success were showcased Thursday at the SCORE Small Business Achievement Awards.

And the collaboration has fostered a commitment to give back; Garcia-Taylor aims to fill an underserved need in the county’s Spanish-speaking community.

“Our philosophy is about educating the community,” she said in the article. “We … are adamant about helping a client understand how insurance works, what it’s supposed to do and how it can affect them at the time of a loss. That is what really is starting to make an impact.”
