AmerisourceBergen Surges Into Fortune Top 20
A prescription for success is working wonders for AmerisourceBergen, which has broken into a top new tier of financial health according to the latest Fortune 500 rankings.
The Chesterbrook drug distributor advanced a dozen places from Fortune’s 28th-best business last year to No. 16 on the 2015 list. Its ascent has been largely attributed to a lucrative supply deal with Walgreens and January’s move into animal health with the acquisition of MWI Veterinary Supply.
AmerisourceBergen is poised for a 16 percent gain in earnings this year and another 14 percent in fiscal year 2016, the Fortune profile stated.
Other major contributing factors to the company’s high ranking include a 50 percent share of the specialty drug market, generic drug price inflation that’s expected to pad its profit margin and the emergence of the American biosimilar drug market, though those prospects are tempered somewhat by a looming government re-pricing and changes in health care regulations.
