The Wegmans supermarket chain, which is opening a new store in Concordville this fall, has just pledged to contribute $250,000 in scholarship opportunities over the next five years at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.
Jim Schaeffer, Wegmans’ vice president of culinary operations, said he hopes the scholarship fund will help students, but also attract the best culinary talent to work at Wegmans stores.
FORTUNE recently placed Wegmans at #7 on its “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.
In April, Wegmans will be hiring new employees to staff its 140,000-square-foot store at the southeast corner of US 202 and US 1 in Chadds Ford and Concord townships. Philly.com reports the store will draw shoppers from Chester County and north Wilmington as well as Delco’s rich western suburbs.
