West Chester Startup AboutOne Has Big Hopes For Calendar Year 2015

By

The pioneering founder of AboutOne, a Walnut Street Labs-incubated West Chester startup, has circled 2015 as a big year for the self-described “smart, powerful solution for managing memories and household information.”

That’s because it is launching its new Family Calendar iOS app in April and expecting to quadruple its customer base to 1 million this year, according to a Keystone Edge interview of the woman behind it all, Joanne Lang.

“I think 2015 is going to be our year,” she said in the article, which also highlighted that the company has grown to 12 employees, just inked a significant new deal with FamilySearch and opened up its cloud platform for third-party app developers.

“Building a cloud platform is like building a house. You have to dig the foundation, do the wiring, etc. When you’re finished, you can start putting the flowers in the garden and the curtains in the windows. That’s where we are now.”

Lang said she has overcome the challenges of finding the right team and “learning to balance being a mom and running a company. Having a company is like having a fifth child. It’s a roller coaster you can’t get off. Balance and persistence are important.”
