La Comunidad Hispania Receives $250,000 Federal Grant

By

La Comunidad Hispania, Inc. in Kennett Square has just received $250,000 in federal funding to provide behavioral health services during its community outreach programs.

LCH is one of seven health centers in the state to share $1.75 in federal funding to establish or expand behavioral health services.  The funds were provided through the state department of public welfare.

Each year LCH’s health center provides primary, urgent and prenatal care to about 2,000 people regardless of their ability to pay.  The center emphasizes preventive care for its patients and during community outreach programs.  The center is staffed with a care manager, health educator and social services staff.

LCH offers prenatal services along with physical exams, health screenings, well baby and child care, women’s health care, immunizations, screening for sexually transmitted diseases, family planning and tobacco cessation outreach and counseling.

The center’s fourth annual Get Up! Get Moving! Event is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 in Anson B. Nixon Park, rain or shine.  The free event will offer physical activities, live music, health screenings and raffles.  Those who register prior to Sept. 12 have a chance to win bikes and helmets for a family of four (a $2,000 value).

LCH is also registering children for a YMCA Ladino dance workshop, and the dancers will perform at Get Up! Get Moving!  Registration is on the LCH website here.
