Volunteers Plant Seeds Of New West Chester Food Co-op

By

Local food activists in West Chester are throwing tomatoes — albeit their own fresh, homegrown variety — at the established grocery scene and planting seeds of a revolt that aims to take back control of the food supply through the new community-owned West Chester Food Co-op.

A just-formed steering committee has got growers on its side and is now in pursuit of tech-savvy designers and promoters to help formulate a launch strategy.

The movement’s hope is to harvest a sustainable member-owned but public grocery store that also invests back through “community efforts at hunger relief, nutrition education, environmental protection and other issues to benefit the region,” according to a Main Line Today article.
