A loop trail and restroom facilities are in the works for Delco Woods in Marple Township, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times .
Council Vice Chair Christine Reuther announced last week that the county is moving ahead with an ADA-compliant half-mile paved Woodland Loop Trail that starts at the Reed Road parking lot.
That same gravel parking lot will be paved, and ADA-compliant bathrooms will be built on the site.
There will also be stormwater infrastructure work to prevent flooding.
Delaware County Council secured the 213-acre property through eminent domain in 2021, effectively creating the county’s biggest park.
Residents gave input in January 2023 on how the park should be developed, and those ideas were incorporated into a Master Plan unveiled in April 2025.
The Master Plan for the park emphasizes the protection of natural resources and fostering community.
“The plan for the park features three key elements: conserving the forest and streams, improving the network of trails, and creating a community hub,” Reuther said.
“We know how important this park is to our residents, and we are proud to be taking one of the first steps towards building something that can be enjoyed for years to come.”
